If you build it....

About six months ago, when the Mississippi flood was finally coming down, I discovered what I thought were the remains of on old abandoned disc golf park on Credit Island here in Davenport while I was on a run. The Island still had water pumps draining the lake in its middle and was very muddy, the pads looked old, covered in mud.

In August I showed up for a service project at Credit Island for our ward. I was told we were going to be spreading bark and cleaning up, but when I got there we began assembling these:
Aren't they beautiful? I love the green. We assembled 17 of these babies (they weren't sure where the 18th was supposed to go) and placed them where they were going to go. Those pads I had seen in the spring were new pads for a new course! Davenport's fourth. I just happened to have my discs in our truck, so after the first few baskets were in place, I was the first person to ever play the first three holes at the park. The new course it built on an old golf course. The city decided the island flooded too often and maintaining a golf course was too much work. It is pretty flat, but they did some cool things with the trees, bridges, and space. I like it. The biggest problem is the mosquitoes.

Beautiful...basket
May favorite hole at the new course. Lined by trees with a bridge down the middle;
you have to throw straight. Davey rode his bike between throws.

Chains, a documentary

A disc golf documentary? Seems a little nerdy, but that wouldn't stop me from watching it. Some of the courses in the preview look awesome. I'm excited to try some more out. Vibram was involved in making the movie, they are hoping to help discgolf break into the mainstream or something like that. Enjoy the trailer.

Advice from the pros

Here's some guy I've never heard of. Big Germ. I think he could whoop us at disc golf, so I plan on trying his advice. I particularly liked his advice on grips, so here are the pics of his grips. The forehand.

The Thumber. I'm excited to try this one, perhaps I can replace my tomahawk.
Hopefully this can improve my blessed backhand.

December Tournament

So, it seems like there will be a few of us in Idaho/Washington at the end of December. I propose a winter Hyzer Dragon disc golf tournament. I suggest we play with most of the official rules, like only one person throw at a time and everyone else watches that throw (so we can keep track of where our discs land, and keep good track of how many throws we each have). Do we want to have a one day tournament where we just play one course once, or of multi day multi course tourney? Who is in on this? Breta and I are putting up a prize for the winner. Right now we are thinking a disc golf bag.

Fall is here

This morning I saw the first leaves from my tree on the ground. It's fall, one of the best times of the year to disc golf. Where have you played recently?
